The Golden Baseball League have announced the creation of a new instructional league, the Arizona Winter League to be based in Yuma Arizona. The 44 regular season games and championship game will all be played at Yuma's Ray Kroc Complex and Desert Sun Stadium in January and February of 2007. The Arizona Winter League will field 4 teams including the Yuma Scorpions, the Sonora Surf Dawgs, the Canada Miners, and the Snow Falcons. Each 25 player team will have a manager drawn from the Golden Baseball Leagues roster of professional managers.
The four teams will be made up of professional free-agents, independent professional players under contract using this as a development/instructional opportunity to get ready for the 2007 summer season, and collegiate players that were overlooked in the 2006 MLB amateur draft. The Top 24 free agent players will be signed to contracts for the 2007 summer season of the Golden Baseball League, leading to a very competitive winter baseball season. Professional scouts from several minor leagues as well as major league team scouts will also be in attendence adding to the players incentives.
Players will report on January 14th and begin the two games a day schedule on January 19th. The season will culminate with a championship game to declare the team whose players will wear the championship rings. The fans will benefit from minor league activities including mascots, game day promotions, fan giveaways, and concessions.
January 14, 2007 there will be 100 players arriving in Yuma to play baseball. We are looking for families that would be interested in taking a player into their home for the one month period. This is no cost to you, only a great opportunity to give a player some place to call home. All host families will receive a complimentary season pass for the 2007 Winter Season. Any families interested should call Tana Adams in the Yuma Scorpions office at (928) 257-4700
